Tai Ora Programme
Waves of Change
This is our ongoing recruit programme that is open to all potential clients. The aim here is to initially engage new referrals and clients and familiarise them with LFM while they prepare to begin the Tai Wātea surf therapy programme. Tai Ora is run each week and consists of a fitness session with our youth mentor, followed by lunch and a group discussion. Depending on staff availability, there is also some initial practical life navigation support available for clients.
Tai Wātea Programme
Waves of Freedom
This is our intensive 9-week programme that involves surf therapy, group therapy, one-on-one clinical sessions, one-on-one life navigation skill sessions, as well as cultural sessions which includes haka and researching and learning their pepeha. One full day each week involves the surf therapy, group therapy and the haka and pepeha cultural sessions. The following two days then consist of their one-on-one clinical and life navigation sessions. Tai Wātea also includes an ‘Open Day’ where clients are transported around, introduced to and educated on positive opportunities available to them in their community. Tai Wātea finishes with a formal graduation for the clients, where they share their pepeha with the crowd, perform a haka and give speeches. At graduation, the graduates are recognised for all their progress and hard work, and presented with their individual awards and taonga.
Tai Whakaora Programme
Waves of Healing
This is our 10-week psychoeducational programme that is available for clients after they graduate Tai Wātea. This programme runs for three days each week, with the programme days consisting of fitness sessions, surf therapy, group therapy sessions, as well as ongoing one-on-one clinical and life navigation sessions with programme facilitators. Tai Whakaora creates a space for clients to feel empowered and safe to go deep within themselves and work on healing trauma from their pasts, allowing restoration and true healing. This programme is also about learning healthy new routines and habits, while also preparing clients for employment, fostering a strong sense of independence and confidence. Tai Whakaora finishes with a graduation for the clients where they are again recognized for their hard work and achievements, given taonga and celebrated for how far they have come.
Tai Tautoko Programme
Waves of Support
This is our ongoing keeping-in-touch programme that is open to all past Tai Wātea graduates for as long as they want and need. This programme runs weekly on a Friday, so clients can engage with both Tai Whakaora and Tai Tautoko concurrently if they desire, or solely with Tai Tautoko if they have other commitments during the week. Tai Tautoko keeps clients connected with each other and the wider Live for More whānau, while offering ongoing support as they continue to develop and make positive changes in their lives. The weekly Tai Tautoko programme includes a surf therapy session, followed by lunch and a group therapy session. One-on-one mentoring sessions are also still available to help graduates continue to stay on track, achieve their goals and receive any needed support. Tai Tautoko is available ongoing to graduates forever – the support from Live for More never ends and is always available to them.
